Comfortable Friends

Comfortable Friends (shoes) by Dee Overly, Ink, EDM

Tennis shoes are one of the greatest inventions ever. There are enough brands and styles out there that everyone can find their perfect fit.

I never seem to throw a pair away, they just go into rotation. If they aren’t good enough for out and about anymore, they become my “in house” shoes.

From there they move into my “yard work” shoes. It’s been at least 15 years since I’ve had to actually abandon a pair of my tennis shoes. I like to get my money’s worth.

Everyday Matters

EDM 141 by Dee Overly, Ink and Watercolor Sketch I’ve joined this Yahoo! Group called Everyday Matters. It’s a community that’s designed to encourage members to expand their creativity. The main focus is on drawing and creating illustrated journals.

Well, how could I pass this up, I love both. They have these weekly challenges of items or ideas for members to sketch. Then they post them on the web somewhere, anywhere for sharing. What fun!!

So, I’ve joined at challenge number 141, draw something with bristles. And there it sits on my kitchen sink right next to this week’s sponge, which I see is number 126 on the challenge list. Hmmmm, a two in one drawing. Cool, I’ll take it.

Things have been serious on the drawing board lately. It’ll be a delight to get back into the 10 minutes doodles in my sketchbook again. And I love the name, Everyday Matters. There’s so many ways to think about that.

Have a grand day!

American Artist 70th Anniversary Competition

Raindrops by Dee Overly, Colored Pencil The winners have been posted on the American Artist website. The Colored Pencil artist John P. Smolko took the Grand Prize. Absolutely wonderful, he has such a unique style; you must take a look at his work.

The competition has eight categories; Acrylic, Colored Pencil, Drawing, Mixed Media, Oil, Pastel, Printmaking, and Watercolor. My Raindrops piece took Second Place in the Colored Pencil category. It will appear in the December issue of their magazine along with the other winners.

Until October 30, 2007, you can vote for People’s Choice in all the categories. Voters much be or become members of their website forum. Not a bad thing, especially if you are an artist; and it’s easy. Enter an email addy, a password, then verify that you really exist through an email message they send to you, then vote.

But give yourself some time and enjoy viewing all the wonderful art that made the semifinals of the American Artist Competition.

Have a grand day!
